Sustainable Tour GraphicThe City of Crystal Sustainability Commission is launching the Sustainable Tour of Crystal, a community-driven initiative designed to highlight sustainable home and garden practices, creative environmental solutions, and everyday “green” hacks from residents throughout the city.

The project aims to demonstrate that sustainable, environmentally friendly choices can be practical, approachable, and achievable for everyone. By sharing their sustainability projects, residents can inspire neighbors to explore simple ways to reduce waste, conserve resources, and support a healthier environment.

Crystal residents are invited to submit photos of their sustainability projects, which will be featured on an interactive online map. Community members can then virtually explore featured projects or visit publicly viewable locations as part of a self-guided driving or biking tour around Crystal.

The Sustainable Tour will launch on July 18 at 1 p.m. with a community launch party and prize drawing in the Edible Courtyard at the Crystal Community Center. Prize items include a backyard compost bin, a rain barrel, and a kitchen collector pail for organics recycling.

Participants must be Crystal residents, and submissions will be accepted through June 30. Residents do not need a perfect yard or costly upgrades to participate; simple, creative, and everyday sustainability efforts are encouraged.

Examples of eligible projects include pollinator or native plant gardens, rain barrels, compost systems, lawn-to-legume conversions, backyard chickens, solar panels, energy-saving home improvements, creative reuse projects, waste-reduction initiatives, and other sustainability practices residents are proud to share.

Residents interested in participating can submit their projects at go.crystalmn.gov/sustain.
