Crystal Joins Safe and Stable Communities
Posted on 02/17/2026
The City of Crystal joined Cities for Safe and Stable Communities, a nonpartisan coalition of Minnesota local governments working together to address operational and economic instability impacting cities across the state. The Crystal City Council joined the coalition on Friday, Feb. 13.
By joining the coalition, Crystal adds its voice to a growing group of local governments calling for the immediate de-escalation of Operation Metro Surge and for a return to predictability and stability for residents, businesses, and local institutions.
While the City of Crystal recognizes the role of federal immigration enforcement, city leaders have expressed concern about actions that occur without coordination with local governments. Such actions can create legal uncertainty, strain municipal resources, and disrupt essential community services.
City leadership continues to assess the local impacts of Operation Metro Surge, including potential effects on workforce stability, local businesses, schools, and community organizations, as well as the demands placed on emergency and social services.
As part of the coalition, Crystal supports the group’s collective call for:
• Respect for local control – Ensuring federal actions respect local due process and constitutional protections.
• Economic stabilization – Protecting local businesses and workforce stability from the fallout of the operation.
• Immediate de-escalation – Allowing cities to conserve limited resources while rebuilding trust and helping Minnesotans in their communities feel secure.
